I’ve been playing with electronics, computers, tablets and cell phones since their inception. I got my first computer in 1977, an Apple ][, and have been in love with technology ever since.
Back in those days, there weren’t a lot of people who could teach you how to use things like computers. And techie stuff like anything other than OTA (over the air) television was really in its infancy.
I remember chomping at the bit for cable to come to the house we lived in in Suburban Chicago. But again, when it came time to learn something, I had to do it either by myself, or find some other like minded geek who was learning as he or she went along.
Now as I near Medicare eligibility I find that there’s a lot of folks my age (and younger) that really have no idea how to use technology and oftentimes reach out for the simplest of things. I started this blog for those folks – of all ages – who simply want to know how their technology can work for them, and get answers to the most basic questions on how to use all of the tech that they’re bombarded with.
So, I decided to start this blog, and see where it goes. Over the weeks and months to come, look for random thoughts and interesting tidbits about the types of questions and issues that I’ve been helping folks with. And by all means feel free to post here or ask me a question via email using the contact form below. I’ll give it my best shot!

Marty, What a GREAT idea !
If you get tech questions regarding iPhoto or iMovie…perhaps I can lend a hand. I have hours at the Apple Store taking classes.

One more thing Patty… Have you done a reset on the whole iPad? Hold down the home button and the power button at the same time. Don’t let go until the screen goes black.
Then it should restart. If the Apple logo doesn’t come back on hit the power key again.
That might get you up and running until I can call.

I tried to reboot the iPad but it didn’t work. I will be in and out all day tomorrow. Try Monday or some evening while I’m home. Talk to you soon and thanks again!

One more thing, if you can. Try taking the iPad to the office or to one of the restaurants and see if wifi can connect there. That’ll help identify where the problem may be.
Have a great Memorial Day!

I would like to know something about iMovie. How do you burn an iMovie project to DVD on a new iMac that does not have iDVD?

Karen, that’s a great question, since Apple has eliminated the DVD burner on the new iMac Desktop Computers. I faced the same dilemma with my Macbook Air. The solution was simple.
I went out and purchased an external DVD burner that connected to the Mac via USB. A quick search on Amazon showed a number of DVD burners available for the Mac. You can see the list here: http://amzn.to/17VKA5z.
You can probably find one locally too. Once you have the drive, you can burn that file to a DVD with ease!
